The latest and greatest activity to hit Naples has been Pickleball. In the last year alone, residents of Naples have been creating, joining, and playing in Pickleball leagues quickly enough to make Naples the Pickleball Capital of the World! What makes this sport perfect for Naples is that anyone can play at any level! It’s not like football where you risk a concussion each time you step on the field, or baseball where most of the time you are standing around. No, Pickleball keeps everyone active, up to their preferred level, and there is no immediate need for an ambulance if someone get’s hit with the ball!
Communities all over Naples have rushed to build Pickleball courts in their amenity center as that has become a requirement for people thinking of moving out here. Some communities are even going as far to hire Pickleball professionals for their residents.
But the support for this sport does not stop at the gates of each community. Commissioner Rick LoCastro is a big proponent of the sport as it brings out many tourists to the Naples area. Given the recent storms that have impacted Southwest Florida, LoCastro has authorized just under $700,000 out of the Collier County’s tourist development tax to repair and rebuild Pickleball courts around Collier County. The approval was unanimously approved by the Board of Commissioners, who call Naples, “…the crown jewel of pickleball through the world…”
